Actions You Can Take to Fight Domestic Violence

Any victim of domestic violence can seek help in Florida courts. Based on your petition, a judge can immediately issue a temporary order called an Injunction for Protection Against Domestic Violence (commonly known as a restraining order) that prohibits the abuser from contacting or coming within a certain distance of the victim.

The temporary order also prevents the abuser from coming to your place of work, having contact with your children, or entering a home that you both share. If you and the abuser share an automobile, you will be able to continue using it.

A temporary order can last for no more than 15 days, and the court will immediately schedule a hearing to determine if the temporary order in place should be made permanent.

You can file for a restraining order if you have experienced abuse or even if you only fear that you are in danger of experiencing abuse. You have rights, and you should not be afraid to assert them.

False Accusations of Domestic Violence

The Injunction for Protection Against Domestic Violence is a powerful tool. Unfortunately, many individuals take advantage of it, ultimately abusing a system that is intended to protect them from abuse. If you have been falsely charged with domestic violence, we can help you protect your rights and aggressively represent your interests.
